Sometimes the player stops and you will see this error
"The media playback was aborted due to a corruption problem or because the media used features your browser did not support."
This could be due to a number of causes
Browser issues
Poor Internet connection
Website plugins not supported by browser
Cached data in the system
The video file has a problem
Irrespective of the browser you’re using – Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Opera – try the below fixes first to resolve the issue:
Refresh your webpage
Try opening the page in another browser
Check your Internet connection
Delete cookies, cache and browsing history
Disable all plugins on your browser
Restart the browser
If none of the above quick fixes work, there may be some deeper issues with the video.
Copying the link of the stream to VLC I can see the direct m3u8 file is opening in VLC, however, the error displayed in Google Chrome is:
ERROR: (CODE:3 MEDIA_ERR_DECODE) The media playback was aborted due to a corruption problem or because the media used features your browser did not support
I believe it is due to the Audio codec used on the stream, which VLC is showing as “ADTS”. Most browsers only support AAC or MP3 audio. You should check the media files streamed to ensure they have the correct format. I recommend reading this article on encoding your video files: How to Encode your Video Files Properly Before you Upload to the RTMP Server
The error message you’re encountering, “The media playback was aborted due to a corruption problem or because the media used features your browser did not support,” typically suggests a couple of potential issues:
1-File Corruption: The video file might be corrupted. Try playing other videos on the same platform or application to see if the issue persists. If it’s just one specific video that fails to play, it could indeed be corrupted.
2-Unsupported Codecs: The video may use codecs that are not supported by your browser. This is common with newer or less common video formats. You can try updating your browser to the latest version to see if it adds support for the codec, or you could try playing the video in a different browser or a dedicated media player that supports a wider range of codecs.
3-Browser Issues: Sometimes, browser plugins or extensions can interfere with media playback. Try disabling extensions, particularly those related to ad-blocking or media management, and see if the video plays. Alternatively, you can open your browser in incognito mode (which typically disables most extensions) and attempt to play the video.
4-Network Issues: A poor or unstable internet connection can also cause this error. Ensure your network connection is stable and strong enough to stream video content.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, converting the video file to a different format that is known to be compatible with your browser might help. If you need assistance with video file conversion or any other technical details, let me know!

Thank you for your post Marianne.
I don’t know if this is the issue for everyone, but it seems to have been for me. I could not play any video on either Acorn of BritBox, a problem that had never happened before, and only began today.
I logged out and back in, and it didn’t help. I closed and restarted the browser, and it didn’t help. I disabled plugins, and it didn’t help.
I finally clicked on the “Play from start” icon, and got a second message that told me that some audio codex was not loading. I only know one way to restart the audio codices, and that’s to reboot.
So what you do is shut down your computer. Do not just restart — shut it down. Be sure everything is off, especially the power light. Let it sit for about 90 seconds, then restart.
It worked for me. Acorn is playing again.
Im seeing a lot of this SAME ISSUE, by many people.
I have it too.
My hard drive died, put a new one and reinstalled W7 x64 Ultimate, Installed all my drivers, got service pak 1, and sha2 updates, got the same full codec pak I had. I can NOT play mp3’s mp4’s avi’s etc etc etc, I CAN watch YOU TUBE VIDEOS, but NOTHING ELSE ANYWHERE…..
